SPRING / 2019
In my own artwork I hope somehow to address that people are not isolated in their experiences and to shed a little ephemeral light where there has been darkness. In life at some time or another we ALL learn that it holds many challenges and obstacles to overcome. Some people freeze up, as others poise for the jump over the hurdle, and some just as easily soar over. For all the differences people see in one other the biggest thing to NOT forget is that we are all the same. All of us with the very same needs in this all too human existence. Some subjects are seemingly too taboo to talk about and my installation pieces are manifested or assembled to start many different conversations. Communication about all of those universals emitting from the artworks. The pieces tell their own stories, too, and they are open for many interpretations for the viewers. What they take from the visual dwells within their own experience bank and associations. The pieces provide fodder for connection.

Life Connects, Disconnects, and Reconnects.” |
Born to creative parents, Charlotte as a babe was in tow attending numerous art openings, concerts, dance and theatrical performances. Allowed adventurous roaming and free play in antique warehouses as a toddler while her Mother worked as an interior designer acquiring pieces for clients in Atlanta, Georgia. Her Father, initially a shoe salesman of fine Italian shoes, relocated to Los Angeles to pursue acting, modeling, and apparel design. Both parents successfully influenced the extension of her curiosity and play into her adulthood. Hints to her early exposure to creativity are evident in the assemblages and artworks created solely from objects Charlotte acquired that had been lost or tossed creating. For the duration of her Master of Fine Arts program at Winthrop University she created many dramatic displays utilizing fashion, furniture, even her own form for her artworks. The assemblages mirror her vast interests. Maintaining a lifelong concern for the welfare of the human condition and experience, Charlotte views it a privilege to connect with a variety of people and learn about their culture and their differences while steadfastly finding the commonalities that unite them. Charlotte attained her undergraduate Bachelors of Fine Art in Computer Art from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Working in graphic and fashion design, Charlotte realized early within her career that she relished most is people. Currently fabricating wired wrapped jewelry, wool felted Fedoras, a new series "The Wabi-Sabi Collection of Collage" and assemblages of (mostly shoes) entitled "My Diddy was a Travelin' Shoe Salesman." |
